If you’ve never played poker before, then it’s probably because you think there are two basic styles of poker: live and online. However, there is more than just these two styles! While these two styles of poker have their common characteristics, they are far from outdated. In fact, there are plenty of online poker sites that are very similar to live style games.
Most commonly, you’re going to find two types of poker when you play on the internet for the first time: holdem and live. Holdem is the most common style of poker and can be played on most any casino site as long as you have cash to play with. Live poker is played on a casino site and bets are placed into an account with the casino. Once you place a bet, you can withdraw your winnings from your account.
There are many different variations of holdem and most casinos offer both versions. One of the biggest differences between a holdem room and a casino is where the action is held and in what order. Live poker rooms usually place the betting activity in an “order” manner, starting with the dealer throwing high (low) cards (called hands) at the players.
A good example of this is a game called Caribbean Stud Poker. A stud is a small poker room where the players sit around a table and deal seven cards face down. The dealer will deal seven cards to each person in turn. Then, the dealer will pass the cards around the table one at a time. When a player takes a card, that person is out of the game and the dealer will start another round. This continues until someone gets a card and wins the pot – the person with the most cards at the end of the pot wins.
In a live casino, the action is somewhat different. The deal is made exactly as it would be in a regular poker game – the dealer will deal seven cards to each person, the final two remaining players will each get five cards and the dealer will pass the cards around again. Then, the players will carefully look at their cards and choose what suit they want to bet on. Then, the dealer will tell the players their final bet and everyone enters the casino’s Poker Room. When all the players have bet, the dealer will tell the players to look at their cards – and the final best five-card combination will be called.
